A California resident, Rose Padilla Johnson oversees the Davis Street Community Center, Inc. in San Leandro. Here, Rose Padilla Johnson assists the underserved residents of San Leandro and surrounding communities with education, health, and job skills support. In December 2020, the Davis Street Community Center spread cheer to 1,000 families through their annual basket program, which also included $100 from an angel donor. The 49th Annual Holiday Basket Program involved Center community members receiving a package containing a holiday feast-turkey and all the fixings-and the extra cash. Center families could swing and pick up their basket over three days beginning on December 21 and ending on December 23. Keeping COVID protocols in mind, the center staff and volunteers first handed out baskets to area seniors on the first day, and the last two days were designated for children and families. However, an angel donor really made the difference for many of these families who were struggling in the middle of the pandemic. The extra money meant that some did not have to choose between paying rent and their other bills. The little extra made it possible to meet their obligations at the end of the month and purchase gifts for their children. via WordPress https://ift.tt/2KU5xtq
