Rose Padilla Johnson is a member of the Rotary Club of San Leandro, California. Between 2005 and 2006, Rose Padilla Johnson served as the San Leandro Rotary Club President. Due to her tireless efforts to support people from low-income communities, she received the Rotary International Service Above Self Award in 2013. The Service Above Self Award is the highest recognition given to Rotarians who rendered continuous exemplary service to help others. Thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and talents and are eligible for this award, but only 150 people globally are given the Service Above Self Award each year. Annually only one individual from a Rotary district can get this award which gets its name from the Rotary International (RI) motto, which is “Service Above Self.” Current and past RI directors and district governors are the only individuals who can nominate a Rotarian to be considered by Rotary International’s Selection Committee for this prestigious recognition. Nominations are usually done in October each year. Recipients of the award get a pin and crystal award. via WordPress https://ift.tt/32XmvMT

Dedicated to the health and well-being of children and families in the Greater San Leandro community, Rose Padilla Johnson serves as the CEO of Davis Street Community Center. Rose Padilla Johnson leverages her skills and experience to provide social services to the residents of San Leandro and beyond. To help families enhance their bond while learning to make healthy food choices, Davis Streets hosts nutritional cooking classes in its demonstration kitchen. The center invites a nutritionist to prepare healthy and affordable meals cooked from ingredients donated to the food pantry. The training materials are available in English, Cantonese, and Spanish. After the hands-on training, a wellness coach conducts one-on-one conversations to discuss any lifestyle changes clients may need to improve their health and reduce the risks of illnesses due to obesity. The classes have been well-received, and the spouse of one of the participants has lost 10 pounds and lowered his blood sugar levels in one month. via WordPress https://ift.tt/3a0ZWuJ For nearly three decades, Rose Padilla Johnson has led Davis Street Community Center, Inc., in San Leandro, California.
