Having dedicated her career to serving low-income and immigrant communities, Rose Padilla Johnson serves as CEO of Davis Street Community Center in San Leandro, California. Rose Padilla Johnson also earned the Global Citizen Award in recognition of the work she’s done over the decades, both within the San Leandro community and elsewhere, from the United Nations, which also offers global citizenship education initiatives through its Academic Impact program. Created in 2010, the United Nations Academic Impact seeks to direct universities and higher education institutions in providing students with the tools they need to help accomplish the humanitarian goals of the organization. More than 1,400 schools in 147 countries participate in the program, offering educational opportunities, such as the Millenium Fellowship Program. As part of its humanitarian mission, the organization seeks to inspire members to give back to their communities through various awards and recognition, including the Service Above Self award. As CEO of Davis Street Community Center in San Leandro, California, Rose Padilla Johnson oversees the organization’s growth by employing both business skills and an ability to foster relationships in the community.
